The calligraphy is not necessarily an artistic discipline. It can be simply understood as the set of morphological features that characterize the writing of a person or of a document. However, ancient cultures gave it great importance, and not in vain, since in it it’s underlying the visual beauty of ideograms representing their thoughts and metaphysical precepts.
To simplify, it could be said that the visual harmony of calligraphy corresponded with the inner harmony of its executioner, being embodied in it certain psychological characteristics such as patience, tenacity and neatness. Even within Western psychology, without much success, some techniques have been developed, such as handwriting, which is intended to describe the general characteristics of the character and personality of individuals by analyzing handwriting. Meanwhile, Islamic culture also made its way with its own calligraphic style, and because of the religious prohibition of representing living beings, becomes a decorative art widely used in architecture.
Anyway, after the invention of printing, calligraphy lost dominance against the use of typography. With the inventions of pen, typewriters and computers, calligraphic technique has virtually disappeared from our lives. Now we write only when there isn´t a computer or phone near. That is why it’s rare to find people like Pokras Lampas. He is definitely a master in the art of calligraphy.
We hope that this brief introduction has been enough to tune in the tonality of one of the brilliant works of this artist who delights in artistic calligraphy and female nude masterfully combined. The same is entitled “Calligraphy on Girls” and comes from the session No. 10 made with the beautiful model Olga Kobzar.
